ABOUT ME: I am a Sydney professional trumpeter and brass educator. I have recently completed my Bachelor of Music Performance (jazz-trumpet) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I conduct lesson at my residence in Marrickville and in Blakehurst.
I have played in an eclectic range of large and small ensembles including big bands, concert bands, jazz combos, orchestras, ska/funk bands, strut bands, theatre and musicals orchestras. I have performed at festivals including The Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival, Chicago Mid-West Conference, Splendour in the Grass, Woodford Folk Festival and Vivid at the Opera House. I have also toured the U.S with the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Band, where we featured at the Chicago Mid-West Conference.
My teaching credits including working as trumpet tutor with the Sydney South East Symphonic Winds Ensemble as well as the South Coast Regional Music Camp. I am in the in-house tutor at Caringbah High and Kirrawee High, both noted music programs, and take students from local primary schools in the South and Inner West.
Over the years I have studied with 10+ tutors myself -most recently with a number of prestigious Australian jazz trumpeters and U.S. specialists. Studying with such a variety of teachers (both good and bad) has given me insight into what a tutor should and should not be. I am passionate about passing on the best teaching qualities of each of my past tutors. It has also allowed me to collect a wide variety of material, ideas and pedagogical approaches.
My teaching philosophy: My pedagogy has a strong focus on proper technique. I work work with students at the intersection of correct mechanics and critical thinking. Too many players (including myself!) were mindlessly taught without consideration to proper technique and have had to return to basics to rectify these problems. I have help correct playing issues for numerous troubled players.
Tuition overview: I am able to teach AMEB to those who feel they need it, and have completed the AMEB grades myself. I otherwise am able to teach a variety of styles including jazz and classical, music theory/musicianship, improvisation and sight reading. I also have experience leading kids through HSC music II and extension.
Above all of I aim to be approachable and make playing trumpet and music enjoyable. I want to pass on my passion for the instrument to young trumpeters.
