Matt Dempsey has over 15 years experience teaching brass instruments and conducting bands in both primary & secondary schools, at all levels from beginners through to tertiary. Has taught trumpet at University of Adelaide, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and University of Western Australia. Has also been trumpet tutor for the Australian Youth Orchestra & National Music Camp, but with a particular passion for teaching beginners!
Holds both Bachelor of Music (Performance) from Sydney Conservatorium, and Diploma of Education (Secondary) with experience as a classroom music teacher. Currently completing Masters of Education at UNSW.
Completed several conducting courses with Australian Band & Orchestra Directors Association NSW & Victoria, and The Australian Winds.
Professional musician working frequently with Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra, and held permanent positions as 2nd Trumpet of Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Principal Trumpet of Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Also worked as Guest Principal Trumpet with West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic, Orchestra Victoria, AOBO, and for the Australian productions of LesMiserables in 2015.
