Since Winning the James Morrison Jazz Scholarship in 2013, Oli has performed with the who’s who of Australian Jazz including Mike Nock, James Morrison and James Muller and with a number of prominent international artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Gordon Goodwin’s “Big Phat Band” and Marian Petrescu.
Playing the drums from an early age, Oli’s first experience with Jazz came from Jazz Workshop Australia’s “Jazz Camp” in 2007. Oli then immediately began lessons with Jamie Castrisos and soon after, Dave Goodman (PHD) whose meticulous attention to technique and efficient learning techniques paved the way for his development.
In 2010 Oli participated in Jazz Workshop Australia’s tour to the USA and the Caribbean. Where he received tuition from Rufus Reid and John Fedchock.
Oli Begun his Bachelor Of Jazz Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium Of Music in 2012. Learning under Andrew Dickeson and Simon Barker (PHD). During this time Oli was also showcased as a rising star on Eastside Radio, where he performed with James Muller and Phill Stack.
In 2013, after being a finalist since age 18, Oli won the James Morrison Jazz Scholarship at the Prestigious Generations in Jazz Competition in Mount Gambier South Australia where he performed with Gordon Goodwin’s “Big Phat Band” and James Morrison. He then returned the following year to be featured along side international piano sensation Marian Petrescu.
Oli Has since performed with the Mike Nock Quartet and toured with the Mike Nock “Big Small Band”. In late 2015 Oli was selected to play drums for the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra and participate in a tour of the USA, giving a keynote performance at the 2015 Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago and recording an album featuring James Muller at Systems Two Recording Studio in Brooklyn, NY.
A diverse musician, Oli has played with a vast array of Sydney's musicians in its most iconic venues such as, The Sydney Opera House, The Basement, Venue 505, Foundry 616 and The Oxford Art Factory to name a few. Oli has also appeared on national television, on Chanel 7’s “The Morning Show” and Chanel 9’s “Australia’s Got Talent”. Oli is also a member of the “Brassholes” who have performed at the Sydney Fringe Festival.
