Children as young as 3 can learn to play the violin using the Suzuki Method.
Shinichi Suzuki, a professional violinist, was asked to teach the very young son of his friend. He asked for time to think about this and observed that all children learn to speak their mother tongue with ease: they hear, copy and refine their skills. He applied these steps to teaching the little boy with great success.
Suzuki teachers follow this method and are able to teach very young children – sometimes as young as 2.
A registered advanced level Suzuki violin teacher and teacher trainer with nearly 40 years experience, I moved from Sydney to Brisbane at the beginning of 2015 and have established my Brisbane studio.
Students can begin tuition at any age but the best age to begin violin lessons is before the child goes to school: at 2, 3 or 4 yeas of age.
The students do learn to read music once they are familiar with the ‘geography’ of the instrument. I am always happy to help them with their school orchestra music.
Suzuki teachers are required to attend ongoing training with the Suzuki Association.
