Paul Bae-Hwang is an emerging artist and educator who thrives in the diverse world of music as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He began his violin studies in Geelong with Urszula Kamburowski before relocating to Melbourne to study under Dr. Alexandra Hiew. At Monash University, Paul continued his musical journey with Erica Kennedy and Rachael Beesley.

Paul’s musicianship has been recognized through various competitions and positions. He was a finalist in the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance’s Concerto & Aria Competition in 2020 and 2023, and he was twice acknowledged in The Australian Music Prize (2018, 2023). Within the Monash Academy Orchestra, he has held leadership roles, including concertmaster (2020) and principal second violin (2023, 2024). Additionally, Paul has been a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s Concertmaster Scholarship in both 2020 and 2023.

Externally, Paul has contributed to Melbourne’s vibrant music scene through his involvement with the Melbourne Youth Orchestras and Young Mannheim Symphonists. He also served as a committee member and principal second violinist of the Maroondah Symphony Orchestra from 2018 to 2023.
Paul recently completed an honours degree in Music at Monash University, supervised under Dr. Anna McMichael. He also holds a science degree with a specialization in Physiology and Pharmacology. His honours thesis, which received first-class honours, explored how violin bowing techniques could be optimized for musicians with shorter limbs.

As a freelance performer and educator, Paul is passionate about sharing his love for music. He enjoys exploring unconventional approaches to historically informed performance (HIP), using music to convey vivid colours and stories. In his free time, Paul can often be found playing competitive video games or driving through mountain landscapes.
