Learning a musical instrument is a constant effort to put all the pieces together, and at the same time you want to be playing music and enjoying yourself. A good teacher can help you achieve that.
In 30 years of teaching, the main thing that I've learned--again and again--is that every student, in fact every musician, is different. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Persistence is the single biggest factor in making satisfying progress on the guitar.
I teach Classical and Flamenco guitar to all ages and levels, including AMEB exams and VCE Guitar. I also give students the skills to work in modern bands and be effective players. Most modern musicians need a different understanding to classical musicians and communicate in different ways.
I have a Bachelor of Music in classical guitar from Melbourne University Conservatorium. I'm also an accompanist and performer on Flamenco guitar with the Southern Flamenco Centre, working with dancers and singers at festivals and venues across Melbourne. I've worked in numerous contemporary bands--Rock, Blues, Country etc. I have taught hundreds of students from 5-12 years old, as well as teaching teenagers and adults.
Some of my students have gone on to Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music, Monash University School of Music, the VCA Secondary School and other music institutions, as well as gaining many music scholarships.
I can teach you or your child in a thorough, systematic way that has grown from years of experience, and that will give the skills to take the guitar in any direction you want.
