Pete Roberts has been teaching piano for more than 20 years and is a highly skilled, highly trained and passionate teacher offering piano lessons in Lilyfield.
Skilled in both Modern and Classical piano styles, Pete's expert guidance allows students to explore their creativity and develop their piano playing skills efficiently through a structured, innovative and fun approach to learning the piano.
Whether you are wanting to learn modern piano styles such as jazz, pop, rock, blues or whether you prefer learning classical piano, or a mixture of piano styles, Pete's tailored lessons and innovative teaching videos (see video lessons page) will have you playing your favourite piano pieces in no time.
All students are welcome from complete beginners through to advanced pianists. I can help students prepare for AMEB classical examinations, as well as auditions for University courses in particular advanced jazz and contemporary courses.
Biography & More Info
In 2001 Pete graduated with distinction from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano (majoring in Jazz Piano), and since then has been working as a musician performing with many of Australia's best musicians.
From 1998-2003 Pete undertook an intensive period of classical piano study at the Sydney School of Piano with master teacher Elizabeth Green, and can give students expert guidance on how to develop effortlessness and ease with their piano technique.
Piano Lessons for Children
I welcome young students from the age of 5 and up, and have had many years experience teaching tailored lessons to children that give students an excellent grounding in all aspects of piano including correct piano technique, note reading, ear training, music theory, improvisation and more. The most important aspect in teaching piano to children is to keep them engaged and interested in the lessons, and so I always structure the lessons to suit the needs and development of the student rather than having a one-size-fits-all approach.
Piano Lessons for Adults
Most of my adult students have very busy lives and so their piano lessons often need to be tailored in such a way that they can continue to develop their piano playing without having to spend hours and hours each day practising. I have had many years experience guiding adult students in developing their piano practise to fit in with all of their other committments, and in particular I have found that tailored practise videos (see below) help students develop much quicker, giving them 'hands-on' guidance with their home practise, particularly when learning new pieces.
