Phoebe Greener

  • BMUS

Hello! It’s lovely to meet you, my name is Phoebe. I graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2022 with my Bachelor of Music, majoring in Classical Piano. When teaching, I encompass the idea that music is the language of the heart, as such, I hold great importance in getting to know my students, having fun and exploring musical ideas.

As a piano teacher, I aim to inspire my students to explore creativity and expression in all things musical. To achieve this, two factors are important to gain creativity: understanding the foundations of music and a safe environment. The foundations of music are vital to any musician's ability. Be it the knowledge of rhythm, note reading, dynamics, articulation or technical proficiency to name a few. Once they know them well, nothing can stop them. Next, safety is vital because it gives students the space to comfortably and confidently explore music. Furthermore, by giving students a space in which to comfortably explore music, they can develop their confidence in the art form.

I teach on the idea that everyone learns differently, so I work with my students to enable them to understand musical concepts in a way that works for them. Sometimes misunderstandings arise, and once they become clear to both of us, we work together on strategies which enable the student to continue to grow in their abilities. With more advanced students, I work with them t more deeply explore expression, technical proficiency, and more practice methods. All the while continuing to explore a wider range of music. Once my students start to understand musical concepts fully, the rapid development of their playing and the joy they experience as they start to ‘get it’ is a great gift to be able to witness.
