The instrumental course aims to provide students a strong foundation on the basics of classical technique and a practical approach to the fundamentals of musical interpretation. The first few stages focus on systematic development of technique and establishing a confident ability to read music. Emphasis is given on the proper mechanics of the left hand and the right hand, and the important role they play in tone production and musical expression. The next stage introduces concepts of artistic interpretations in music. Varying types of music from different stylistic periods and genres are covered to teach the students established performance practices from these periods. From here onwards, the students’ repertoire is progressively expanded while maintaining a balanced approach to technique and musicality. Ultimately, the goal of the course is to install a sense of enjoyment to the students when playing music, and to build their confidence to share their music by performing in front of an audience whenever opportunity arises.
Please note, our teachers use varying method books for beginner students. We encourage the use of AMEB books.
