Bachelor of Music Guildhall School of Music and Drama, baroque violin specialisation Royal Conservatory of the Hague
I’m a passionate and engaging teacher. I offer individual lessons in violin or viola tailored to students of all levels and ages from beginner to advanced in my private studio in Summer Hill.
I believe learning music from a young age offers the opportunity to improve discipline, patience, critical thinking, observation and the merits of long term hard work.
My teaching method consists of building a strong technical foundation to get the best sound out of their instrument whilst minimising injury. I focus on giving students the tools to practice efficiently by involving them in the learning process.
As a specialist in baroque and classical music, I can offer advanced students lessons in style on their Bach pieces, baroque sonatas, Mozart concertos, etc.
Rafael began his violin studies at 5 years old. He obtained a Bachelor in Music degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, with further postgraduate studies in Baroque Violin in the Conservatory of The Hague. Rafael regularly performs with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Pinchgut Opera, Salut! Baroque and the Muffat Collective. He believes teaching music to be an essential part of a musician’s contribution to the wider community. As well as teaching regularly in primary schools in Sydney, Rafael has been featured as guest director with Sydney Conservatorium’s Early Music Ensemble and the Sydney Baroque Festival Orchetra.
