Rebecca Shao

Rebecca has over a decade of extensive teaching experience through the AMEB system in different environments - privately, in primary/secondary schools, music schools with students of all ages.

She was classically trained by concert pianists from the Paris conservatoire and underwent studies in popular music and music therapy at The University of Queensland as well as jazz vocals at the Jazz Music Institute.

Her biggest inspiration for teaching music came from her brother who was initially rejected from the school music program for behavioural and learning “issues”.

He was taken in by her piano teachers husband for cello and came to quickly surpass his school peers, eventually touring Europe and is now an AMEB board examiner, cellist in the Queensland Symphony and a highly sort after educator in his own right.

This left a strong impression for how critical it is to create space for the student to develop their own natural abilities and over the years she has had a knack for bringing back students who had given up music and starting afresh with brilliant results.

For older students (teens and up) Rebecca also offers a holistic vocal method which involves delving into the emotional, physical, and psychological aspects of singing, as well as lessons on accompanying oneself on piano and ukulele.

Many of her students find this extremely therapeutic and helpful towards their own self-development.
