Richard Pavlidis

  • BA Music Performance (Improvisation) - VCA (Melbourne Uni) 2011

Hi, my name's Richard and I'm a saxophonist and clarinettist from Melbourne.

I studied music at the Victorian College of the Arts, obtaining a BA in Music Performance in 2011. I've taught the sax, clarinet, and music theory at many institutions including St Columba's College, Brighton Secondary College, Emmanuel College and Mount Scopus College, as well as privately. I've prepared many students for successful AMEB exam results, and for major performances at the VSMF and Generations in Jazz festivals.

I also personally perform extensively both nationally and internationally, and have appeared at major festivals including Splendour in the Grass, The Manly Jazz Festival in Sydney and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. I've performed live on ABC, PBS and RRR radio and at Europafest in Bucharest, Romania in 2015.

I specialise in jazz and improvisation, and although I am happy to work with beginners my lessons are probably best suited to students who already have some background on their instrument. We'll look at the great players and their styles, learn some theory, jam together, learn your favourite pieces and, if you're keen on it, work towards some local performance opportunities.

Feel free to contact me to discuss your aims in music!
You can also check out what I'm up to at, where you can hear what I actually sound like, and find out any other info.
