Having recently returned to the Fraser Coast, I hold a Bachelor of Music with Honours majoring in violin performance at the Queensland Conservatorium and a Graduate Diploma of Education specialising in classroom and instrumental music teaching at the University of Queensland.
I believe in promoting a culture of excellence in the Arts, while also allowing students to get maximum enjoyment out of their playing. For 7 years I have taught strings and piano at schools in Hervey Bay and Maryborough, as well as running a successful private teaching studio in Atherton for the last 5 years. I have a strong interest in pedagogical methods, particularly the ideas involved with the Suzuki method. I feel it is important to take a well-rounded approach to musical education and aim to develop the overall musicality of students through combining aural, visual and kinesthetic learning techniques.
I have experience in many genres including classical, world music, jazz and improvisation and have regularly played with Fraser Coast band "Soul City". I have also led the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and participated in an internship with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. I believe in student-directed learning which allows the student to have significant input into the style of music they play and how they choose to learn.
