Roxane Powell (RoxyP) grew up on the Gold Coast and attended the Simon Gallagher School of singing and dance training in Ballet, Jazz and Tap, singing and drama. As a child she performed as a soloist at weddings and at the closing ceremony of the 1994 World Masters Games.
During her high school years she studied at TAFTA (The Australian Film and Television Academy). She went on to attend the Central Queensland Conservatorium from 1999 to 2004 studying Music Theatre, Jazz and Contemporary vocal in the Bachelor of Music Program.
Discovering a passion for teaching, she began working in conjunction with Facets Studio Mackay helping private vocal students and working on such events as The Mackay City Christmas Carols and the Central Queensland PCYC run school “Idol Competition” working with hundreds of student aged singers as both a vocal coach and a judge.
Her 18 years experience include over 8 years as Director of www.sing! choral group and working as a one on one vocal teacher and choir master for Holy Spirit College in Mackay, then Trinity Catholic School and Kids on Keys Music School on the Gold Coast.
Roxy also taught at Mackay Special School in 2004 where she both planned and taught 10-week interactive music programs for special needs students of varying ages and disabilities.
Roxy’s fascination with different vocal styles has led her to explore many different genres of music as well as teaching methods as The Suzuki approach to Instrumental Learning and the Kodaly Method.
Roxy is a Professional Singer in her own right having performed in stage musicals such as Grease, Calamity Jane and The Rocky Horror Show as well as having toured extensively in bands around Australia and in stage performances most notably in tours throughout China.
Her years in performance give her great perspective on how to train for a real life career in music as both a vocalist and instrumentalist.
Roxy lives and works in Nambucca Heads where she teaches vocalists in classical, contemporary and jazz genres and uses vocal therapy to help special needs children and children facing developmental challenges. Her passionate belief is that anyone can learn to sing and that good music is food for the soul.
It has led her to expand her programs to include group workshopping in a choir environment and structured private lessons incorporating the Five Dimensions of Learning based on the research of Robert J. Marzano.
Lessons are tailored to each individual and are for students 6 years of age to 96!
