With many years of combined experience teaching piano and classroom music Ruth’s focus is on fostering a love of music while developing both practical and theoretical skills, adapting her teaching approach to suit the individual student. Students will be gently guided to discover the many aspects of piano playing, including learning a variety of musical styles, technique, theory (useful, practical-based), and how to express themselves musically. Opportunity to compose, improvise, and perform, as well as to learn to play music through reading and/or by ear is given from the beginning, giving all students (including young beginners) the satisfaction of making music from their first lesson. Ruth‘s students are encouraged to challenge themselves, with lessons aimed at developing a sense of fun and enjoyment in playing the piano and making and sharing music.
