Hey there!

My name is Ryan Nicholson and I have been a Choral/Music Director for over 4 years and a singer for over 15.

I have directed and worked with several incredibly talented groups over the years - including The Baden Street Singers, Men of the West and Naya Chorale.
With these groups I have travelled around Australia; performing at Song Festivals, running workshops, putting on shows and competing at National Barbershop competitions.

I was given the opportunity to lead and direct some of these groups - and train with some of the greatest practical music educators in Australia.
From this I have gained an incredible breadth of singing experience, from vocal pedagogy/physiology, performance skills and stage presence, singing technique, and above all - a deep love and passion for singing.

I have also had a wealth of experience teaching and coaching singing to people with a wide range of ability. It is my firm belief that everyone can sing, even those who are self-proclaim as "Tone-Deaf".

I focus on an empathetic teaching style - creating and fostering a space where singers are comfortable to explore and grow. I give special attention to both the emotional aspect of singing/performing, along with the technical aspects of the voice, in particular on how you can use voice technique and an analytical approach to enhance your performance.

I have no set lesson structure - instead, tailoring each lesson to what the student hopes to accomplish. Depending on the goals, this can include:

• Learning and practicing the Biology/Mechanics of the voice
• Stagecraft, performance and connecting with the audience
• Becoming comfortable on stage and singing in front of others
• Music and Singing Theory
• Solo/Group Performance Techniques
• Beat-boxing/Vocal Percussion
• Vocal Harmony Theory
• Vocal Improvisation

I am either lessons at my home in West Perth at either 45 or 60 mins.
