Ryu Kodama is a Sydney based drummer performing with a wide range of projects.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Ryu studied under the legendary jazz drummer Frank Gibson Jr. During his high school years, Ryu was awarded with the most outstanding drummer award twice, and the most outstanding musician award at the Tauranga National Youth Jazz Competitions. Ryu was also selected for the New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra, touring with guest artist Dick Oatts from the Village Vanguard Big Band.

Now, after completing his Honours year at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Jazz Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Simon Barker, Ryu is performing with many up-and-coming original bands and artists around Sydney such as Anoesis, Jiem, Kosher Groove, Chelsea Warner and others. Most recently, Ryu is preparing original music in a new group, RAM with fellow Conservatorium graduates
