Sacha Burford-Hartman

Sacha Burford-Hartman has been playing the saxophone for over 12 years. As an accomplished player, he enjoys performing jazz standards, popular music as well as movie soundtracks.

Sacha commenced his musical journey during his primary years of schooling and over the course of his education, has performed in several ensembles. During his primary years, he performed in the junior and intermediate ensembles at Balgowlah Heights Primary School before moving to Oxford Falls Grammar School where he enthusiastically joined a range of performance bands and ensembles.

Sacha was a part of Oxford Falls Grammar’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Junior Stage Band, Senior Stage Band and Pop and Rock Band. Whist in these ensembles Sacha performed a wide repertoire of music ranging from jazz standards to musical theatre pieces. Sacha also joined the Northern Suburbs Symphonic Wind Ensemble (NSSWE), an extension ensemble for aspiring musicians. Whilst in this ensemble Sacha attended weekly rehearsals and workshops this ensemble had numerous performance opportunities.

In 2018, he was selected to represent the school as part of an ensemble to embark on a musical tour of Singapore. Whilst on tour the ensemble played at various venues as well as participating in tutorials and workshops with other musicians both locally and overseas. On this tour Sacha enjoyed many performance opportunities.

During his final year of secondary education Sacha was selected as music captain. As music captain, Sacha worked closely with teachers and tutors leading different music sections and mentoring young musicians.

Sacha has performed professionally in a range of settings. Some of these include RSL Life Care, the Sir John Clancy Auditorium in the University of New South Wales as well as the Chatswood Concourse and the Sydney Opera House. Sacha has performed in successive seasons at the Manly Jazz festival at the Stars of the Future auditorium.

During his secondary education Sacha has completed both AMEB and Trinity graded music exams where he achieved results ranging from merit, distinction, and high distinction.

Sacha is currently in his third year of completing a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz. He is a member of both intermediate and advanced jazz ensembles as he completes his tertiary studies. Whilst attending these ensembles Sacha prepares for the end of semester performance evenings in the Esme Timbery Theatre at University of New South Wales.

Sacha has been employed over a number of seasons with Northern Beaches Council as a musician where he performed Christmas carols and festive music. Sacha has also been employed by RSL Life Care in Narrabeen in their afternoons of jazz.

When Sacha is not studying or performing, he enjoys transposing a range of music for Sax to perform for performance and pleasure.
