I have been playing flute for 12 years and teaching for two. I am currently studying honours in flute performance at UWA.
I've completed the Professional Learning Day of the Australian Flute Festival (in Sydney), received a high grade in a Music Education Unit at UWA, and completed a Flute-specific teaching seminar hosted by Zenith Music and Emily Clements.
I currently teach at two Perth music schools (Crescendo Music and Penny Lane's Music Workshop), and I've taught students from the ages of six to mid 70's. For younger (and smaller!) students I teach fife, so that the student can learn good foundations on an instrument that is an appropriate size, cheap and pretty much indestructible!
I am an enthusiastic and motivated teacher, and believe that although technique is important, learning music should be fun. Whether you want to prepare for exams or learn for pleasure, I would love to work with you to achieve your goals.
So far I've taught students with a variety of aims, including: aiming to get into IMSS/ music programmes in high school, learning for fun, adults looking to improvise with friends, older students picking up the flute again after a long gap for pleasure, and young children beginning music on the fife with lots of games. Although I'm classically trained, I am very interested in other genres, and I'm up for trying pretty much anything :~)
Please contact me with any questions or to discuss availability, I teach from my home in Palmyra but have some potential to come to you if our schedules line up!
