Shangrong Feng, a New Zealand-Chinese pianist, is recognized for her artistry, musical depth, and versatility across solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire. She is the founder of Asilence & Co Music Media and serves as Artistic Director of the Aegio International Piano Competition. Shangrong also appears as a jury member at renowned international music competitions and teaches at piano festivals worldwide. She gives masterclasses in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and across Europe, inspiring the next generation of pianists with her musical insights.

A Master’s graduate from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Shangrong studied under Prof. Stephanie McCallum. She began her piano education at the age of five with Russian concert pianist Yury Volkof and Ukrainian pianist Alla Nazimok. She later studied with other prominent musicians including Diedre Irons, David Barnard, Emma Sayers, Graham Johnson, Jian Liu, Michael Endres, and Richard Mapp.

Shangrong has performed in major concert halls across New Zealand, Australia, and China, including New Zealand Parliament, Auckland Town Hall, Aotea Centre, Whirinaki Whare Taonga Concert Hall, Verbrugghen Hall, University of Auckland Music Theatre, Central Conservatory of Music Opera & Concert Hall, and Liaoning Grand Theatre. She was a featured artist for New Zealand Young Chinese Talent at Auckland Town Hall and performed as a guest soloist with the Auckland Youth Orchestra in celebration of the orchestra’s 75th anniversary. In 2021, she participated in the 11th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition’s “Hama-Con-Plex” world premiere concert, performing a commissioned work by Motoharu Kawashima. Shangrong has been interviewed by The New Zealand Herald and her performances have been recorded and broadcast by SOUNZ.

A versatile and collaborative musician, Shangrong is highly regarded as a chamber musician, accompanist, and orchestral pianist. Her collaborations include performances with Wellington Opera (La Traviata), NZSM Opera Screen Production, Wellington Region Senior Vocal Competition, HVC Junior Vocal Competition, and the film Lacrimosa Dies Illa.

Shangrong has received numerous awards and scholarships in recognition of her musical excellence, including the Therle Drake Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Music, Expressions Piano Trust Award, Postgraduate Scholarship in Classical Piano Performance, Rere Beckway Pianoforte Performance Award, and the Belinda Frances Hughes Piano Scholarship.
