Simon is a professional trombonist with the Royal Australian Navy Band. His ex-students include scholarship winners, full-time professional players and educators in their own right.

Originally starting as a trumpet player, he “saw the light”
at age 17, and commenced studies on the trombone.
Within a year he has auditioned successfully for a place at Australia's premier music institution, The Sydney Conservatorium.

During his time at “The Con” Simon also studied conducting, arranging, and improvisation. Between his third and fourth years, he studied on scholarship with Principal Trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra, Denis Wick. Upon graduation he was awarded with a bachelor of music in Trombone.
Following graduation, Simon freelanced, playing at the Sydney Opera House with Sydney's two professional orchestras, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and The Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

After a period of two year as musician-in-residence at the Orange Conservatorium, Simon returned to Sydney to expand his musical knowledge . Since his return, he has toured Las Vegas (Monte Carlo Hotel Casino), Singapore, Qatar, Noumea, Christmas Island, and Indonesia. He has also recorded extensively with a number of bands, as well as releasing an album with his own band. In 2004, he was commissioned to write the score for the swing musical “Jump Sugar Jump”, also produced that year in Melbourne.
