Viola and Violin
Sofie found her passion for the Violin and Viola when playing the instrument in a string quartet formed with friends at school. She went on and was elected to study with lead Sydney Symphony Orchestra Violist Felicity Tsai from 2010-2015.
Sofie has been a principal of the NSW Youth Orchestra, and a member of the acclaimed NSWYO Quartet, as well as a member of Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute under internationally acclaimed conductors Johannes Fritsch and Matthew Coorey. In past years she has participated in SBS Youth Orchestra, as principal and been in the Sydney Youth Orchestras Flagship under Alexander Briger AO as well as other ensembles that form part of SYO orchestral development program for many years.
For consecutive years Sofie participated in the Sydney outreach program run and funded by the prestigious Australian Chamber Orchestra for talented young string players under the age of 18. Additional education programs include workshops with the Australian Chamber Orchestra Academy, where she was tutored by violist Nikki Duvall.
In addition to teaching at the Inner West Music College Sofie is currently completing her Master of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under former associate concertmaster of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Marina Robinson and in the studio of Roger Benedict, principal violist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She plays on a Viola made in the workshop of W.E.Hill and Sons in 1973.
