Stephen Trounson

I studied Clarinet at the Victorian College of the Arts under Isobel Carter, whilst concurrently studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

Prior to moving to Ballarat, I was a long-time member of the Grainger Wind Symphony, based in Melbourne.

I have also had decades of experience playing electric bass in semi-professional Musical Theatre orchestras and 18-piece big bands, where the ability to read formal music notation and having large ensemble skills are essential.

I have many years of experience in instrumental teaching in woodwinds and electric bass in State and private schools.

In my clarinet teaching I focus on quality sound production and tone, as well as technical skills. All clarinets (Eb, Bb, A and Bb Bass Clarinet) are included in the range of teaching options.

In my electric bass teaching I focus on reading real music notation (not “Tab”), as well as technical skills.

In all cases, from the very start, the aim is to provide the foundation for a pathway to lifelong enjoyment of playing.
