Born in Brisbane/Meanjin, Steven Bryer has had an urge to play percussion ever since he heard the hammer played in Mahler’s 6th Symphony. He has performed with many orchestras across Australia and overseas, most recently playing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in November.
In 2022, Steven graduated with a Graduate Certificate in Music Studies (Percussion) from Queensland Conservatorium, where he also completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance and under the guidance of Synergy Percussion founding member Michael Askill. Before moving to Melbourne, Steven was Principal Percussionist of Brisbane Symphony Orchestra for just over 6 years, playing a variety of music from Mozart all the way through to accompanying global hip hop group Bliss n Eso. He is also a proud educator, having taught at the Queensland College of Music in Woolloongabba, Kimberley College in Carbrook and tutored many workshops with Education Queensland over the past few years.
Steven is extremely excited for 2024 and the opportunities that he will have in his second year with ANAM. He is especially enthused to have the opportunity to work with multiple professional orchestras throughout Australia and New Zealand.
