To be able to sing is a wonderful gift! With my extensive formal training [Bachelor of Music (QLD Conservatorium); Post Grad Dip Music (University of QLD); Grad Dip of Education (ACU)], plus 10 years of teaching (privately and in high schools) and 15 years of performance experience, I am not only qualified, but excited to pass on all that I know to my students!
I love being right there alongside my students on their musical journey, inspiring and mentoring them while helping them to reach their goals. I always aim to make lessons engaging and fun, with an emphasis on a healthy vocal technique and understanding of music theory and improvisation, whilst also teaching students the songs they want to learn. I have completed many courses in Estill Voice Training and draw from this understanding of anatomy and voice production to inform my teaching.
As every student is unique, I tailor each lesson and practice plan to suit each student’s learning style. I also write and record music, and use music technology programs to enhance lessons. I strongly believe in music as a vehicle for creativity and self-expression, and as a medium for improving cognitive development in children. For younger students I incorporate games and movement to help facilitate and inspire learning.
I was formally trained in classical music but have also performing for the last 15 years as a professional vocalist in many styles ranging from jazz, folk, world and contemporary, at countless gigs and festivals. I have recorded 2 albums of original music, am experienced in recording programs such as Logic and Pro Tools and also teach arranging, jazz harmony and music theory to enhance song-writing.
I have full VIT registration (Victorian Institute of Teaching) that ensures Working with Children checks as well as continuing my professional development.
I look forward to meeting and hearing you!
