Thomas Robertson has a passion for performing and embraces diverse performance experiences ranging from orchestral playing to American style drumlines. His orchestral experience highlights include: performing with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO); Principal Timpanist for the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) in 2018/2019, including their 2019 Europe/China tour; performing with Perth Symphony Orchestra (PSO); West Australian Youth Orchestra (WAYO) member from 2014-2018 (Principal Percussionist in 2017-2018); and performing with Western Australian Charity Orchestra and WAPPA Symphony Orchestra.
Thomas travelled to Canada in 2016 and 2017, to perform with the Orchestre de la Francophonie (OF), a Montreal based orchestra for young musicians from around the world. In addition to orchestral playing Thomas also: plays chamber music, including with AYO’s Momentum Ensemble (2018/2019); enjoys Taiko drumming; has played for a range of musical theatre and opera productions; and is a member of the City of Perth Marching Band Thunder Corps.
During his studies at WAAPA Thomas was awarded the Helen Court Award for the most outstanding final year student in the Classical Music Program in 2015 and 2016, the Luigi Paolino Award for Excellence in Classical Percussion in 2015, and the Warana Concerto Music Award in 2016. Thomas is currently in the final stages of a Research Master’s degree in Classical Performance at (WAAPA).
