Having good technique gives you control, freedom, and enjoyment of your sound. Don’t settle for inexperienced teachers who will let you form bad habits – these will only become road blocks to your playing later on.
I have studied with several amazing teachers and am continuously developing myself as a musician and teacher via my own research, training, and creative collaboration with peers. I am constantly broadening my own horizons, which means students receive a well-rounded music education instead of getting bored by working on the same material with the same approach for months on end.
I like to keep well-resourced with teaching materials, such as worksheets, games, flashcards, and iPad apps. I have extensive physical and virtual sheet music libraries, including the up-to-date AMEB piano syllabus. We are sure to find something that will excite and inspire you!
Lessons can include:
- technical work (scales, exercises, warm ups, etc.) – repertoire (pieces you wish to play or sing) – music theory – harmonic analysis – off-bench activities such as games, rounds, rhythmic ditties (in the Kodaly or Orff pedagogic style) – composition/songwriting – ear training – arranging – improvisation – music history/general knowledge – performance/exam preparation – iPad training games
Lessons are given from my home studio in Maylands (just opposite Meltham train station). I have a beautiful Yamaha C5 Conservatory grand piano for students to learn on. Please note that I do not travel to students.
