Tom Duck studied classical clarinet at the University of Melbourne with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra clarinetist, Craig Hill, before pursuing his interest in jazz. He graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts – Edith Cowan University (WAAPA) in jazz performance in saxophone and clarinet. At WAAPA, Tom studied with world renowned saxophonists, Jamie Oehlers and George Garzone. He won the Brett Lockyer jazz clarinet scholarship for most outstanding jazz clarinetist.

Tom was awarded the Diploma, Associate in Music Australia (AMusA) of the Australian Music Examinations Board, in clarinet with Distinction. He has also been recognised as an outstanding young woodwind performer by the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Victoria.

As a member of the West Australian Youth Orchestra, Tom performed with some of Australia's leading musicians, including James Morrison, Joe Chindamo, Kate Ceberano and Daryl Somers.

After teaching experience in Perth, which included Methodist Ladies College, Tom taught at Camberwell Anglican Girls Grammar and Catholic Ladies College in Melbourne. Tom was a member of the Royal Australian Navy Band for 8 years. He regularly performed pop, jazz and New Orleans groups around Sydney and is now living once again in Melbourne.

Tom's extensive knowledge of both classical and jazz styles allows him to cater for students with different interests and experience. He approaches teaching with enthusiasm and a passion to impart his love of music to all his students.
