I am a professional saxophonist, woodwind doubler and music teacher, with over 15 years of playing experience and 10 years of teaching experience. I am involved in several ensembles in the Melbourne and Adelaide music scenes, and regularly perform original music.
My main focus is teaching primary-aged students. I will be completing a Masters of Teaching (Primary) at UniSA in 2022-23. I worked as a music tutor at Geelong Grammar in Toorak, Melbourne for 6 years. However, I am open to teaching beginner and intermediate students of all ages.
Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach, my teaching style involves assessing the students' strengths, weaknesses and needs, and prescribing appropriate and helpful exercises and practice techniques to ensure the most rapid and well-rounded development. I cover the fundamentals of instrumental technique, music theory, aural training, sight reading and notation, and much more.
I am experienced in Remote Teaching, and am happy to accept students over Zoom.
I'm also looking for more advanced students looking for lessons in Improvisation, with a focus on the jazz language and building a vocabulary. This involves transcription, learning tunes, jazz theory, melodic development, more complicated rhythmic devices, and other improvisational techniques.
I teach out of my studio in Black Forest. Travel arrangements negotiable.
I charge $40 for a half hour lesson and $80 for a full hour. Late cancellation fees apply.
I hold a current Working With Children Check with the SA DHS and Public Liability Insurance.
