I am a professional saxophonist, woodwind doubler and music teacher, with over 15 years of playing experience and 7 years of teaching experience. I am involved in several ensembles in the Melbourne music scene, and regularly perform original music.
I currently teach primary-aged children at Geelong Grammar School (Toorak Campus), but have taught students of all ages in schools and privately. I’ve taken students through AMEB exams up to grade 7 and have tutored VCE Music students.
I teach beginner and intermediate students of all ages. Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach, my teaching style involves assessing the students’ strengths, weaknesses and needs, and prescribing appropriate and helpful exercises and practice techniques to ensure the most rapid and well-rounded development. I cover the fundamentals of instrumental technique, music theory, aural training, sight reading and notation, and much more.
I’m also looking for more advanced students looking for lessons in Improvisation, with a focus on the jazz language and building a vocabulary. This involves transcription, learning tunes, jazz theory, melodic development, more complicated rhythmic devices, and other improvisational techniques.
I teach out of my studio in Preston. Travel arrangements negotiable.
I charge $38 for a half hour lesson and $76 for a full hour, consistent with the VMTA recommended rates. Late cancellation fees apply.
I hold a current Working With Children Check and Public Liability Insurance.
