Vaishnavi is a classically trained flautist who loves helping students discover both the joy and the craft of making music. She holds an AMusA in flute and has performed as a flautist and piccoloist with the Australian National University Orchestra and a variety of chamber ensembles. She also completed flute performance studies at The Australian National University, studying with Dr Sally Walker, supported by the Leonard and Margaret Domam Flute Scholarship, and with Kazuko Ihara in Tokyo through the Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship and an ANU Friends of the School of Music Grant. Learning in both Australia and Japan has shaped her flexible, open-minded approach to music-making.
Alongside Western classical flute, Vaishnavi is also an accomplished performer on the veena, a South Indian classical instrument. This cross-cultural background brings a playful curiosity into her lessons, with a focus on listening, breathing, rhythm, and expressive phrasing.
As a teacher, Vaishnavi creates lessons that are encouraging, structured, and fun. She believes good technique should feel empowering, not intimidating, and works with each student to build confidence, musical understanding, and independence. Whether students are preparing for AMEB exams, playing in school bands, or learning flute just for fun, her goal is to make lessons engaging, motivating, and something students genuinely look forward to each week!
