Emily Vox

  • BA Music Ed & Dip Ed

Born into a musical family, Emily is a delightful singer from Russia, who received a fundamental classical education (voical, piano, musical theory, solfeggio, composition) and privately trained in a wide range of contemporary singing techniques.

Fusing Celtic, Slavic and Nordic traditions, layered with classical and euro-jazz schools, Emily's unmistakeable voice is now featured on multiple international releases, collaborations with bands and musicians from all continents, and spanning a recording, performing, producing and teaching career of nearly 20 years.

After working with rock, metal and gothic outfits in her youth, she appeared solo on Russian gothic compilations: Russian Existence – A Tribute To Project Pitchfork (artist), Colours Of Black I and II (artist, mastering engineer). She is the voice for Íon, Aeolight, Altera Forma, Canonis, Stigmatic Chorus, The Braves amongst many others, and her vast credits as a guest and backing vocalist could take up a wall. She also runs Morningmare Studios, working as a composer, songwriter, music producer and sound engineer.

Having travelled the world and now settled in Melbourne with her astrophysicist husband, Emily continues to work in other sound-related fields – voice acting for animated films, TV shows, narrating audiobooks… And, of course, recording and performing music.

She is currently the lead vocalist of Celtic Illusion – a massive theatrical production, cleverly fusing Irish and modern dance with grand-scale illusions (think Riverdance meets David Copperfield). For her warm and moving delivery, unique tone and a true-diva stage presence, Emily was cast by the show’s Emmy-nominated musical producer and USA-based Irish tenor Michael Londra himself, and entrusted with bringing to life beautiful songs by Steve Skinner – a powerhouse in his own category, who works with artists like Celine Dion, Akon, Diana Ross, The Bee Gees and the Broadway musical Rent, to name a few.

If you want a likeable, patient and supportive teacher with a voice like Enya, Celine Dion, Anneke van Giersbergen or Diana Krall, plus someone who sang everything from prog-metal, pop, RnB to musical theater, to trance, to hip-hop – here are locations and days Emily is teaching (except touring dates):

Mondays and Wednesdays in St Kilda from 12 noon til 10 pm
Tuesdays in Brunswick from 12 noon till 10 pm
Thursdays in our Dandenong from 12 noon till 10 pm

“I have been learning with Emily since she started at Vox (St Kilda) and can say she is an amazing teacher and person! She has given me the confidence to believe in myself, my abilities and my voice. She is understanding and encouraging yet firm and gives direction. She's has a technical scale or practice for every area you may be struggling in or that needs improving. I always have fun in my lessons and come away with a page full of notes and a smile. I can't wait to see where her lessons take me!

Thanks Emily and Vox!"

“I have been working with and learning from Emily for a couple of months now and can undoubtedly say, her teaching, patience, skill and ability are completely unparalleled. She is an honest and encouraging teacher, and her discernment in technical and practical skills regarding my voice and ability has helped my growth immensely. Singing lessons are always fun and informative and I'm excited for my future sessions with her as her encouragement is unwavering, and my vocal development is a definite testament to that.
