RYAN VOX – Deputy Principal Teacher

  • BA Music Ed & Dip Ed

Ryan is the deputy principal singing teacher at Vox Singing Academy behind Peter Vox. He is also the head teacher trainer and quality control manager for the Vox Teaching team. As a full time singing teacher Ryan has a wealth of experience teaching all ages and levels of singing for nearly close to a decade for Vox Singing Academy. Ryan teaches beginner to professional singers. Ryan loves to work on original compositions and is an accomplished songwriter himself. He teaches all styles of singing but specialises in Pop, Blues, Rock, RnB, Gospel, Soul, Hard Rock, Indie, Alternative, Screaming, and Musical Theatre. Ryan also teaches beginner guitar, cajon, public speaking, monologues, acting and voice over techniques.

“After I finished my teaching degree (honours in drama and music) I worked a few years in the industry I decided that my passion was really with teaching the science of singing itself. What really drives me is seeing the look of satisfaction on the students faces as they walk out of each class knowing how to sing a song. I pride myself on putting the students needs first at all times and to discover the most efficient way for the student to learn new techniques whether its developing a higher range or learning how to sing complicated songs or whatever they need.”

“I play gigs almost every week as either a percussionist /singer in a Blues Rock Band or as a soloist as a guitar/singer using cajon, stomp pedal, tambourine, etc. At the moment I’m experimenting with looping pedals for live gigs so that I can re-enact the feeling of a full band with just me playing solo. Personally as a teacher I feel it’s really important to still be out there on the front lines learning new styles, songs, techniques and performing them as it keeps me fresh and honest playing in the live music scene in Melbourne. I also play and collaborate with various other solo artists”.

Ryan is a very warm, welcoming, enthusiastic, energetic and entertaining teacher and brings a lot of electricity to classes making them fun to learn from. He has an extremely low bass tone in his voice and has a freakishly high falsetto range making him very versatile.

Ryan’s Background

From from an early age, Ryan was always singing and playing music, whether its in the local church or to singing his brothers and sisters records in his room. Ryan became the lead singer in his 3 piece Accoustic 90’s Rock band ‘The Dregs’ in 1999 and played local gigs for a few years. He also quickly picked up guitar, keyboard and drums at the age of 16 and started writing and performing punk/grunge rock songs every week for years at the prince of wales Open Mic in Prahran. The years after he finished high school, excelling in music and theatre, Ryan decided to get serious and got some singing lessons with Peter Vox throughout his teens you through to he’s early 30s until he started teaching at Vox Singing Academy!

"When I started singing lessons with Ryan two years ago, I had very little control over my voice and very little confidence. Ryan provided me with the tools and training to unlock capabilities in my voice that I was not able to do before or never even attempted. But apart from improving my vocal technique, Ryan’s passion for music is infectious. He creates a supportive environment that helps you to relax and have fun!"

– Miriam Rose

"Ryan has helped my voice improve exponentially with the technical advice, vocal exercises and encouragement he has given through his singing lessons. I achieved my goal of entry to a Bachelor of Music at Melbourne Polytechnic with just 8 weeks under his helpful teaching. Ryan has a super friendly personality and, if you utilise what he gives you to work on, I would guarantee that your singing goals will be achieved too."

– Mitchell Wynne, Student at Melbourne Polytechnic (Vocal Major)

"Having singing lessons with Ryan has been life changing as he has been able to help me express my inner creativity through singing which, in turn, makes my soul sing."

– Amira Relva

"I’ve had a few intensive sessions with Ryan – who is, possibly, the warmest human being I have ever trained with! He is instantly likeable, good-natured guy, who manages to sneak enormous amount of serious vocal training into what feels like hanging out with a friend. Stays entirely focused on a student at all times. During each session with him I received so much useful feedback! I cannot recommend Ryan highly enough. The studio itself is cosy and well-appointed, accommodates both individual and group vocal lessons. Comfy waiting space with couches and inspirational posters of past students, too :)"
