I'm a professional singer initially trained as a classical singer in East Gippsland, Victoria. After moving to Wodonga, I spent a couple of years at the Murray Conservatorium in Albury. Since then, I've moved more towards contemporary singing and teaching having taught now for over 25 years. I've performed internationally which is any singer's dream.
I still enjoy training and keeping up to date with many of the latest singing techniques which includes singing through the entire vocal range without any noticeable change in the tone or quality of the voice.
My love is contemporary Christian music but I encourage my students to sing the types of songs they love whether it be modern, rock, jazz etc. because they'll perform these the best and sing with passion. This will capture their audience and that to me goes a long way to becoming a successful singer.
Every voice is unique and it's good to learn from singers we admire but we need to develop our own individual style rather than become a replica of someone else.
Have you always wanted to sing and never done anything about it? People often say to me, 'I sing like a strangled cat, you could never teach me' - believe me, I can and have taught many students who lacked a tuneful voice and had no natural talent. They just loved singing.
