William Huxtable

General Details

Who is William Huxtable? He is many things: cavoodle owner, vegan, diehard western bulldogs supporter. One fact can be known for certain- he’s kind of into music. Whether he was rocking out to the Beach Boys on the way to cathedral choir back in Perth, practicing violin almost every morning before school, or rehearsing with his barbershop ensemble The Sharp Tools, music has always been a part of his life. He began the violin at age three, and since then he has learnt from teachers such as Amanda Dryborough, Jasmine Trebse and Paul Wright. Looking back over the earlier years, he certainly does not take the MTS (Mother’s Taxi Service) for granted. 2018 is his third year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and he is currently studying under Robin Wilson.

In 2012 he was awarded his AMusA with distinction and received the AJ Lekie awarded for most outstanding AMusA candidate. In 2013 he was offered a place at the Performance Perspectives Concert for greatest achievement in the WACE practical music examinations. In 2014 he received the Delano Music Scholarship to study music at the University of Western Australia where he studied for two years. Whilst at UWA William participated in a masterclass with the Borodin String Quartet. Whilst at ANAM he has performed for concertmasters Noah-Bendix Balgley (Berlin Philharmonic) and Roman Simovic (LSO), international violin soloists Henning Kraggerud and Simone Lamsma, and performed chamber music with Berlin Philharmonic musicians Matthew McDonald and Stefan Dohr and world renowned piano soloist Imogen Cooper. In 2017 as part of the Partridge String Quartet, he reached the final round of the ANAM chamber music competition and received the Musica Viva prize.
