Winnie Choy - now offering online piano lessons

  • AMEB Grade 8 Piano with an A grade
  • ATMusA (AMEB)
  • Professional member of Queensland Music Teachers Association

I offer piano tuition for all ages in my studio. I have been teaching since 2008, offering music ethusiaists who want to specifically learn to play on the piano. I was classically-trained myself by a brilliant teacher, Lorna from whom guided me most of my piano technique trainings. I went through the processes of sitting many AMEB piano exams receiving many good grades and for my eighth grade, I received a Distinction in 2009. I currently hold a ATMusA music teaching diploma from the AMEB and I am a professional member of the Queensland Music Teachers Association.

I usually take the approach of tailoring an individual program to suit each of my students. The program can be exam-based or not based on any exam syllabus; either way, it all depends on the wishes of my students, and my role is to guide them through the process to achieve their goals. I would consider myself being quite an innovative-typed teacher who focus heavily on techniques but yet using multiple ways to let my students 'experience' music in different ways. For example, I like to teach my students about analysing music and harmonisation as well, as I am also passionate about music composing. To listen to my compositions, please visit my website

At present, due to the pandemic, I often have to resort to using online means to teach such as by using Zoom and Skype. Since using the online way more, I now also see other benefits this mode offers such as time flexibilities for my students, as well as being able to teach students interstate, to name just a few.

Most of my students take weekly lessons of 30 to 45 minutes in duration. Although weekly lessons are the best for maintaining progress, I also can offer more flexible approaches for students to learn.
