Born in Sydney, Yena Choi commenced violin studies at the age of three. Graduating with a BMus in Advanced Performance (First Class Honours) and completing a Performance Program at Australian National Academy of Music, she received an Australian Postgraduate Award Scholarship for an MPhil, during which she was awarded the International Travel Graduate Scholarship and Ernest V. Llewellyn Scholarship. Yena plays on a 1690 Tononi violin.
In Australia Yena has worked professionally with Sydney Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony, Queensland Symphony, Queensland Chamber Orchestra and as concertmaster for Australian Youth Orchestra, Camerata Australia, Momentum Ensemble. Internationally she has worked with London’s Royal Opera House Orchestra, Academy of St Martin In The Fields, BBC Concert and Southbank Sinfonia, with whom she featured as a soloist and recorded for BBC Radio3. Overseas performances include BBC Proms Royal Albert Hall (London), Yehudi Menuhin Festival (Gstaad), New York University's Winter Strings Conference (USA), Aurora Music (Sweden), Britten-Pears Orchestra (UK), Chipping Campden Festival (UK), Anghiari Festival (Italy) and Cervo Music (Italy).
Outside the classical realm Yena has collaborated and worked with Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, Hans Zimmer, Michael Buble, Hugh Jackman, Kygo, Ricky Martin, Diana Krall, Michael Bolton, Neil Finn, Richard Clayderman, Tina Arena, James Blunt, Megan Hilty, Parkway Drive, Hanson, Dami Im, Kate Miller-Heidke, Delta Goodrem, Katie Noonan, Jessica Mauboy, Peking Duk, Maribou State, Eskimo Joe, David Campbell, Guy Sebastian, Mark Vincent, Rai Thistlewayte. She appears regularly as a session musician for TV programmes such as The Morning Show, Sunrise, Fox TV, X Factor, The Voice, Footy Show, Dancing With The Stars, Today Show, Australia's Got Talent and has performed feature songs for the Logie Awards, ARIAS, Asia-Pacific Film Awards, Triple J's 'Like A Version.' Yena has provided music for many upmarket clients such as Cartier, Bulgari, Hermes, La Prairie, Moët & Chandon, Porsche, Jaguar, Range Rover and is often invited to perform for high profile events across the country, having performed for two Australian Prime Ministers and the Dalai Lama's family in the past.
