Piano Lessons

Trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London, pianist Yi-Shing Cheng is a highly sought-after piano teacher whose teaching incorporates her experience as a concert pianist, her in-depth knowledge of piano technique, and most importantly, her deep understanding of how students learn and appreciate playing. She has given lessons for over 15 years in the U.K. and Taiwan. She teaches a wide variety of music from classical to jazz to contemporary. and takes all kinds of students including those who aim to take grade or conservatory exams, learn for interest or fun, or audition for music school/conservatoire.

As the founding member of the piano trio, Trio Opal, Yi-Shing has won several renowned prizes throughout the UK and Europe. She was previously a fellow and Trio-in-Residence at the Royal Academy of Music, giving chamber coaching at the institution as well as the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She has performed at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall in London and the National Concert Hall in Taipei, as well as on BBC Radio 3.

She is organised, patient and communicates well with both students and parents. Her teaching style is flexible, taking into account student’s personality and goals, but at the same time, based on solid foundations.

Yi-Shing also specializes in dealing with stage fright and guiding students’ discovery of ideal performance state and mentality. Recent highlights include a series of workshops she held in Taiwan, teaching young musicians, conservatory students and piano teachers.
