Praised for his ‘consummate authority and passion’ and being a ‘virtuoso of the first rank’, Australian pianist David Soo has appeared in many concert halls throughout Australasia, the Far East and in Europe. These include Australia House, the Barbican Concert Hall, St-Martin-in-the-Fields, Goodenough College for Her Majesty the Queen, the Old Bailey, La Plantation Concert Hall (Beijing), Haikou Town Hall (Hainan China), the Kuala Lumpur Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Melbourne Recital Centre, the ABC Studios in Adelaide and Melbourne. His performances have been heard live on Australian Classic FM, New Zealand Classic FM and FMITE Spanish Radio. David has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout Australia and the United Kingdom, and has been a laureate in international piano competitions in France and Malaysia. David is a finalist in the 2020 Southbank Centre Martin Musical Awards and the Park Lane Group Trust.
David is a highly experienced and sought-after pianist and educator. He is an Artist Fellow at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he coordinated performance platforms for students on the solo and Repetiteur programmes. He also taught piano and musicianship to undergraduate and postgraduate students and was a mentor. David is familiar with most of the piano repertoire and has either performed or studied most of the literature. His students have received excellent results in theory and performance, and his students have won prizes in eisteddfods and scholarship entrance exams. He has a burgeoning piano studio in Melbourne and is in frequent demand as an adjudicator, concert pianist, and masterclass presenter (specialising in Piano, Music Performance and Chamber Music).
David has also been invited to adjudicate eisteddfods in Australia. He was previously Chair of the Music programmes at Goodenough College (postgraduate international halls-of-residence in London) where he coordinated performance platforms, orchestra opportunities and hosted international guests for the postgraduate community. David has been invited as a guest lecturer for the Lyra Music Violin Studios and has been in demand to present masterclasses.
