Involved in music for over 35 years, I am an accomplished classical and contemporary pianist, accompanist, musical director and teacher, having studied at Elder Conservatorium of Music for a B. Mus (Performance) and at the Trinity College of Music in London. In 2009, I completed a Master of Arts in Music and Creative Industries at QUT. I was awarded my PhD in music education from Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University (2017).
I teach piano and music theory for students of all ages, from beginners to advanced and diploma level. Whether it is purely for pleasure or you wish to study for exams or perform, each lesson will inspire you! I work with AMEB (Piano Series, Piano for Leisure and Contemporary Popular Music), Trinity College of Music and ABRSM syllabuses for exam preparation and also a variety of other classical, pop and jazz music, for an enjoyable, creative and holistic learning experience. I also include aural training, sight-reading, effective practicing and musicianship training within the lessons. For some students I will offer HSC exam support for Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension so you feel confident and achieve the best result. Each student has a different musical path and goals, so I tailor the lessons to suit you. Through the development of strong technical skills together with a broad range of musical skills, I help students to develop a love of music that can last a lifetime:)
My home studio in Canterbury, VIC, has a beautiful, old, baby grand piano but I may also travel to teach local students, depending on schedules. I employ a few other experienced teachers at my studio, who embrace the same creative philosophy as I do. Creative Piano Teacher now has other studio locations in Alexandria and Leichhardt, Sydney, and in North Lakes and West End, Brisbane so people have more options to learn, also with lovely pianos for students to enjoy.
With online learning becoming more popular and a number of examination boards offering video exams, I also have an option to learn via Zoom lessons. Many students have surpassed themselves by learning online since 2020 - please see my "Online Piano Lessons" service for more details if you are interested in this approach.
We hold annual concert performance for all students at the studio. Each year we have a different theme and this is a highlight of the year for many of the students.
I bring to students a holistic learning experience, development of their creative abilities and a love of music that can help them build a lifetime of involvement in music. My PhD research in music education and creativity means that I am a specialist in children's musical creativity and have a broad experience of different teaching pedagogies (this helps in finding the appropriate teaching style to suit each individual student).
Learning piano can open up a whole new world of musical exploration, appreciation and enjoyment. It helps build confidence, creativity, increases co-ordination and concentration for other studies as well as being fun!
