Emica Taylor

My name is Emica Taylor and I am a flautist emerging from Christchurch, New Zealand. I am in my first year at the Australian National Academy of Music under the tutelage of Alison Mitchell (QSO principal flute) and recently received my Bachelor of Music in 2023 at the New Zealand School of Music under the study of Kirstin Eade (NZSO associate principal flute).

I have always been passionate about teaching and love to cater my lessons individually depending on each student's musical goals. Lessons can look very different whether we're learning solo repertoire, preparing for an exam, or playing along to a pop song! My home base for teaching is in my Abbotsford apartment, and I'm also happy to travel to student's houses.

My orchestral and ensemble experience includes performing casually with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, and guest principal of the Hawkes Bay Orchestra. In 2022 - 23 I was principal flute of the NZ National Youth Orchestra and joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band in 2023. One of my biggest musical highlights was performing the Nielsen Flute Concerto as the winner of the Wellington Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition 2022.

Outside of music I love reading, strength training, and spending time with family and friends.
