Jack Mao graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours), majoring in piano performance under Elizabeth Green and Dr. Christine Logan, as well as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from the University of New South Wales. He also studied piano performance and literature at the University of Colorado Boulder under Dr. Andrew Cooperstock and Dr. Jennifer Hayghe.

Jack is pursuing a Master of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, under the supervision of Professor Neal Peres Da Costa and Dr. Amanda Harris. His research examines the socio-cultural perception of Classical era music as well as the historical performance practices of the 19th-century, with a particular emphasis on the late piano works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schubert.

Internationally, Jack has performed in solo and chamber recitals in the US and Europe, most notably at the Saarburg International Music Festival and School in Germany, as well as the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Italy. Recently, he was a prizewinner in piano at the Sydney Eisteddfod.

Currently, Jack is the Head of Piano and Chamber Music at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music, where he teaches, accompanies, and coaches both instrumentalists and vocalists.

Jack has prepared, accompanied, and collaborated with instrumentalists for successful auditions and entry into Bachelor of Music programs—majoring in Performance, Composition, and Music Education—at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales, the Australian Institute of Music, and the University of Wollongong. His students consistently achieve excellent results in AMEB examinations, earn Band 6/E4 scores in HSC Music 1, 2, and Extension, with several being nominated for HSC Encore.
