Rory Hannan

  • Bachelor of Music

Rory Tiganis-Hannan is predominantly a jazz drummer, yet his experience in rock, funk, pop, hip hop, electronic, classical and traditional music carry within him an open-minded approach to music. His passion for improvisation and complex rhythm is equally met by his love of laying down a solid groove, leaving him versatile to play and teach many styles of music.
Growing up in a musical family Rory learnt traditional music and rock from a young age. He commenced percussion and drum kit at the age of 12 and studied at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where he learnt percussion under Eugene Ughetti and drum kit with Graham Morgan (Australia’s most recorded drummer).

Rory has been a part of various live and electronic performance opportunities, and collaborated with some great local musicians and producers in diverse music scenes such as Studio H and the Xylouris Ensemble. This has seen him perform at prestigious venues and festivals throughout Victoria such as The Recital Centre, The Thornbury theatre, Bar Oussou, The Espy, Rainbow Serpent Festival and Strawberry Fields. With a strong foundation in technical and theory skills, and experience in performing many styles, Rory is well equipped to teach students of all ages, levels and musical interests.
