Classical Singing Lessons

I offer singing lessons to adults of all ages (aged 18 plus), m. and f., who are interested in studying the classical vocal repertoire. Songs are graded according to experience and help is provided with music reading and languages as needed.

I am a Conservatorium-trained professional with performing and recording experience and I have many years of teaching experience at secondary and tertiary levels. I have also studied early music in Italy (Corso Internazionale di Musica Antica, Urbino) and French mélodie in France (Académie Francis Poulenc, Tours).

I am interested in helping students achieve the vocal control needed to enjoy singing these beautiful songs through developing breath support and tone control. The understanding is that as with any physical training, progress will be over time and involve regular input by the student (i.e. practice!).

I also encourage an understanding of the different styles of singing songs ranging from 17th century Italian baroque arias through 19th century German Lieder to 20th century French mélodies, with the odd jazz or music theatre number thrown in for fun!

Students may be invited to join my vocal ensemble Philomel at no extra cost when they are ready.

Fees are based on an hourly rate of $100, with the usual arrangement being $250 per block of 5 weekly half-hour lessons. 45-minute lessons at $375 per block of 5 are also available.
