B Mus (Ed) (Hons), B Mus (Perf- Jazz)
Hello! I’m Justin. I’ll be moving to Ngummawal in ACT start of 2019 and will be teaching in the afternoon/evening though details are yet to be finalised.
My qualifications include a Bachelor of Music Education with Honours and a Bachelor of Jazz Performance, both completed at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. My teaching is also informed and invigorated by my extensive performance work. I have experience in jazz, classical and contemporary styles and regularly perform in small and large jazz bands, funk bands and contemporary bands.
I have been teaching saxophone and woodwind and leading ensembles for about fifteen years and have felt that what I have done has been of a high standard and well received by students, parents, teachers, and audiences. I currently teach at Ravenswood College, Gordon; Brigidine College, Randwick; Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School, Middle Cove; and Rosebank College, Five Dock, all in Sydney. I also just wrapped up being the musical director of the Sydney University Big Band as the year winds down and I prepare to move to Canberra.
I am keenly passionate about music teaching and music performance. I routinely review my teaching practice and resources with an eye to achieving the best outcome for my students. To this end, for example, I have been developing resources for a website to aid my tuition (which I will invite you to visit www.thewoodwindcompanion.com ) while I write reports each term to keep students up to date.
I’ll be establishing myself in a new town and would love to teach some new people who are keen to learn, as well as get some advice about living in the capital.
