Ukulele Lessons

Ukulele lessons, all ages, all levels, aiming to teach fundamental skills and understanding from a performing musician.

Starting classical piano lessons at age 5 and branching into jazz, blues, ragtime, pop-classical and more, I've been playing for the past 20+ years. I started playing ukulele while working in a music store and now lessons for this instrument are aimed at encouraging enthusiasm, building confidence, and teaching fundamental skills so the student is able to self direct with confidence and gain a greater enjoyment.

When not teaching I perform around SA professionally on vocals, piano and guitar for TedXTalks, ABC radio, convention centre and more. You can find videos on YouTube or on Facebook. This allows me to have a unique perspective on application of skill, dealing with fears, projection and performance.

I tailor the lessons to each individual's style of learning, aiming to encourage enthusiasm in students of all ages, either new or following a life-long passion. This approach often leads to confidence and a long term passion of music. Having started music at a young age, I have developed a love of music and self expression through performance, be it for an audience or yourself. My teaching method reflects this, building confidence and enthusiasm first with long term results and a love of music following. Beyond this, I tailor the lessons to the individual student's needs, so each lesson is unique. Ukulele lessons are tailored to the individual's goals with options such as:

• Chords and strumming patterns and techniques.
• Finger style / finger picking
• Notation and sight reading
• Performance
• Song Writing
• Jamming / Playing with others

I currently work with students ranging 5-72 and am yet to have a student not find joy and growth through working together. All of my beginning students have learnt to sight read within the month.

My teaching method is fluid and stems from what each individual is seeking. I ask each student to bring with them a direction or aim and we work together to reach their goals in a time frame of their choosing.
