Jazz Improvisation Lessons

Hi! I'm Max, I've been teaching saxophone and clarinet for 6 years whilst also working as a performing musician on reed instruments and piano.

Having just completed my Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music I've had the opportunity to learn about the craft of jazz improvisation from some of Australia's best musicians, including Sean Coffin, Cameron Undy, David Theak, Steve Barry and Kevin Hunt. As part of my final year of study I developed a program called Too School for Cool designed specifically to teach complete beginners about jazz improvisation and the creative mindset it requires. The program also connects students to the music through interactive jazz concerts and a family-friendly gig guide.

I'm also passionate about the history of the music and have experience performing in all sorts of styles, from traditional New Orleans and stride piano, through to post-bop and even free jazz (if you happen to be into that...).

Happy to work with all instruments and experience levels!
