As a piano teacher, I believe no matter whether a student wishes to play for leisure or to achieve a certain professional goal, they need to be provided with the tools that enable them to express their personality and create their individual interpretation.
Learning to do this is similar to learning a language.
My approach places a strong emphasis on preparing the tools that let the music exist – sound quality and touch are prioritised from the very first lesson.
With a decade of experience, I offer tailored lessons with a focus on detailed technical guidance, performance psychology as well as advanced practice strategies. Lessons regularly incorporate elements of music history, harmony and theory ensuring students receive all the necessary skills to excel in their musical goals.
My dedicated class of students regularly achieve outstanding results in both exams, auditions and competitions.
I am particularly keen to teach committed students of any age, whether this be at a beginner or advanced level.
No matter your current skill, if you want to study professionally or for yourself, if you love music and want to learn please get in touch!
Lessons
Beginners
For those undertaking piano lessons for the first time, focus is placed particularly on developing a solid technical foundation and fluent reading skills.
Beginners are clearly instructed on what actions will allow them to become technically successful, ensuring good habits are developed from the earliest stages of learning.
Recognising musical structures, various memory aids alongside an awareness for historical context make the learning process faster, more efficient and much less tedious for the beginner.
With the inclusion of reading and sight-reading techniques in conjunction with elements of harmony and theory to support the process, lessons will cover all major fundamental aspects of piano playing.
Intermediate/Advanced
For the intermediate and advanced student, lessons will focus on the tools needed to create a conscious and intellectually confident interpretation of the music.
This includes detailed technical guidance, performance and learning psychology as well as advanced practice techniques.
In addition, an analysis of works through the lens of harmony, theory and musical context provide the key to an independent and artistically unique performance of the music.
Extensive performance experience is brought to the teaching environment with guidance on concentration, relaxation and performance anxiety. An integration of aspects of psychology and methodology help students develop a problem-solving approach to challenges they may encounter, ensuring a satisfying and productive learning process.
Testimonials
Melody has been teaching my daughter for three years. She started with teaching grade 8, and now onto the AMusA program and also the music craft and theory courses. As a piano player myself, I have very high expectations of my children’s music teacher. Melody has shown the qualities of a great music teacher. She is dedicated, gentle and patient, but also disciplined so the students know what’s expected of them. Melody teaches excellent techniques and helps her students to build effective practice habits which is so important for the older students who get busier and busier with school work and extracurricular activities. Melody is very pleasant to talk to and she always answers parents’ queries patiently.
I have referred Melody to my friends and they all give me very positive feedback. I would recommend Melody to anyone who wants to learn music!

Melody has taught Raz piano for the last 3 years, and has been consistently patient, dedicated and conscious of setting challenging but achievable goals for Raz.
Raz has not only progressed very well in this time, he enjoys piano and is inspired to prioritise his piano practice ahead of other studies- we attribute this to Melody’s teaching style helping to build his confidence and fluency (as well as Raz liking piano! :))
We are grateful for Melody’s continued care with Raz’s development!

I have been learning from Melody for more than 2 years, and I can confidently say that her teaching style is very effective. She allows you to see the complexity and beauty in music so that you can enjoy playing it yourself even after your exams.
