Suzuki Cello Lessons - Specialist in Early Beginners

I believe in music-making as a pathway to character development.

A specialist in early beginners with thirteen years of experience, my teaching balances high achievement with building a caring relationship and developing self-confidence, creativity, and joy for learning. Early cello lessons focus on building solid technical foundations the correct way, the first time, preparing for advanced concepts from the very beginning.

First-Time Students
New cello students who would like to enroll in the studio should be between 4 and 8 years old (though I am happy to discuss exceptions to this guideline). Children and parents are not required to have had any prior musical training. Admission is entirely dependent on the family’s readiness to learn as determined by the teacher.

Transfer Students
I accept a limited number of transfer students into my studio. Admission is dependent on how well I feel the child and parent would fit into the studio. Please schedule a trial lesson if you are interested in joining the program. For trial lessons, students should come prepared to perform a polished piece that represents their ability on the instrument.

In addition to my private studio, I teach cello at Newington College. Prior to moving to Sydney, I served as Community Music School Cello Faculty at Oberlin Conservatory of Music where I taught Suzuki cello, led the Early Childhood program, and coached chamber music. My students have won concerto competitions, have been recognized at regional competitions, and have been selected for principal chairs at competitive youth orchestras.

I am a teaching member of the Suzuki Talent Education Association of Australia (NSW) and the Suzuki Association of the Americas and have completed registered training with Fran Firth, Andrea Yun, Tanya Carey, Avi Friedlander, and Carey Cheney.

I hold degrees in cello and viola da gamba from Oberlin Conservatory, University of Michigan, and Lawrence University.

I hold a current Working With Children Check & National Police Check Certificate.
