Our Piano students learn the same way that greatest musicians of all time learned piano.
ALL the greatest & most famous musicians were composers, improvisers & ear-learners, so this is the method we teach according to "Music Learning Theory" research, backed up by the latest & largest body of research on music education: "Music Learning Theory" by Edwin E. Gordon & Associates.
Our lessons are structured where a student chooses favourite pieces from any style of music and is guided to learn a piece by ear. First by identifying the meter, tonality & key, followed by all the rhythm patterns, tonal patterns & harmonic patterns from the piece - all by ear, just like Mozart would do.
The student is then guided to improvise in the style of a piece, by combining the patterns in creative ways like J.S. Bach was famous for. Then to compose a piece in a similar style, using similar patterns, the same way that Beethoven learned to compose.
If students wish to do AMEB grades, we recommends they first study according to this effective research backed method for around 1 to 3 years, then directly go for a high grade, usually grade 5 to 8.
Our students become more complete musicians who quickly master all musical skills including learning by ear, improvising, composing & reading in all styles of music.
